Incoming Students


Congratulations! You made it! Now before you fly here, make sure you have these documents ready, or you're expecting extra hours in the immigration.

  • A passport valid for at least sx months
  • Visa
  • I-20 (for F-1 visa holder) or DS-2019 (for J-1 visa holder)
  • Financial evidence showing that you or your financial sponsors have sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living expenses E.g. bank statement, scholarship letter, or graduate assistantship appointment letter
  • SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) receipt


If it is your first time here, better get Taxi, Uber, or Lyft. Other alternatives are:

  • Airtrain + Subway ($5 + $2.75 + $1 for new card)
  • Airtrain + LIRR ($5 + $5.5 + $1 for new card)

To get around New York, you can easily go anywhere by subway. Here are the fares:

  • $2.75 for pay per ride
  • $31 for 7-days unlimited ride
  • $116.5 for 31-days unlimited ride

Useful apps


If you are able to secure a dorm / on-campus housing, great! But if not, that will be a bit tricky. In general, you have to have income 40x of your rent, or guarantor with income 80x of your rent. Alternatively, you can get a sublet room for several months. Here are some useful links:
